Paph. rothschildianum - the ultimate status symbol in the orchid scene.

Clone names like "Commander", "Jurassic Park", "Mt. Milas" etc. are real wallet openers - plants change hands for a four or five figure sum.

For a long time there are offspring of Paph. rothschildianum was only brought to the orchid market in small doses, just to keep a higher price.
Today, offspring are available in every price range. Plants grow best from a size of 20 cm.

The culture takes place in the temperate - warm area. It is known from the natural location that the plants are exposed to a cool phase of about 6 weeks to induce flowering, during which the night-time temperatures drop to 10 °C.

Paph. rothschildianum grows in Sabah (Malaysia - Borneo) on Mt. Kinabalu. Some people said, that this species is only growing in the nature reserve of Mt. Kinabal Park - but other locations are known.

This species can now be grown well from seed, so that taking it from the wild is no longer necessary.

 

 

 

 

oday there are enough plants from Paph. rothschildianum - affordable for every budget.

However, special clones still achieve prices in the four-digit range today.
