Paphiopedilum ayubianum GRUSS & ROETH
Synonym: Paph. sangii var. ayubianum
Section: Barbata
These plants grow at an altitude of 1000-1200 meters in partially shaded locations in an area in northern Sulawesi near Palau, which is approximately 800 kilometers from the Paphiopedilum sangii habitat.
Paphiopedilum ayubianum differs significantly from Paphiopedilum sangii in its lighter leaves, the intense hairiness of the flower, the often horizontal position, the deep wine-red color of the petals with even darker veins, and the larger syzepal.
