Paphiopedilum wilhelminae   WILLIAMS

Section: Coryopetalum

Synonym: Paph. gardinerii

Dr. Garay (former director of the Oakes Ames Orchid Library and Herbarium at Harvard University and world authority on orchid taxonomy) had a look to the type material of Paph. wilhelminae in alcohol. The color of the flower is given as purple.

There are two different statements about the origin of this species - once the plant is said to have been found on Mt. Wilhelm in Papua New Guinea. No plants have been found from this location to date. This suggests that the Paph. wilhelminae has been lost to this day.

Eine andere Herkunftsangabe spricht vom Balim River in Irian Jaya - von diesem Standort ist Paph. gardinerii gefunden worden.
